The Gift - a Christmas Day Carol

Writer's picture: Sam McBratneySam McBratney

  1. On this special day, we gather to sing

And give thanks for such a wonderful thing.

The waiting’s done, so now we can cheer,

The Gift long desired is finally here.

  2. The most precious hopes and dreams we hold dear,

The longing for peace foretold by the seers.

Bundled in cloths in the arms of a girl,

The Gift in the flesh, the light of the world.

  3. This is the wonder, a tale full of grace,

The Gift, unexpected, comes to this place.

Enters the world as a vulnerable babe,

Settling among us, the ones he has made.

  4. Go tell the tale of the Gift who was born

In a distant land on this very morn.

The Gift is offered so all can be sure

That love and freedom will always endure.

  5. Let us give praise to the One who provides,

One who is given, with arms open wide.

God is revealed in a little child's face,

The One who is Giver and Gift and Grace.
